Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 144 (June 6, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Frank Ford (ASN: 35600250), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, from 28 January to 2 February 1945. Corporal Ford, a member of an Infantry regiment’s medical detachment, repeatedly braved intense hostile fire to aid seriously wounded comrades during an attack against enemy-held hills. On one occasion he carried a wounded man in his arms across an exposed area while under fierce enemy fire, and another time he ventured in front of our most advanced elements to rescue an injured man and administer blood plasma. Corporal Ford’s courageous efforts helped save many lives during the bitter engagement. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
