The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Constantine A. Ferris (ASN: 0-379719), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of Company B, 1st Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 9 February 1945. Some time after the action at the Paco Railroad Station had begun, Captain Ferris was directing mortar fire seventy five yards form enemy emplacements. During the rapid fire from every section of the station, he left the cover of his mortar position, crawled thirty five yards over an open area to one of his enlisted men who had been wounded and was unable to move. He then dragged the casualty back to safety out of the line of fire of enemy machine guns. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Ferris, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
