The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Henry C. Fee (ASN: 37456426), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 37th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, during World War II. On 22 June 1945 Sergeant Fee was commanding an armored car which was spearheading the advance up the Cagayan Valley. In the vicinity of Balasig, the column was engaged by a strong enemy road block. The armored car in advance of Sergeant Fee’s vehicle drew several rounds of enemy artillery fire, one round of which scored a direct hit, destroying the car and seriously injuring the crew. The Lieutenant in charge of the demolished vehicle was blown to the ground. On attempting to rise and run for safety, he fell to the ground because of an injured leg. In the face of intense enemy machine gun, rifle and artillery fire Sergeant Fee dismounted from his vehicle and accompanied by an unknown infantryman, ran 25 yards to the side of the officer. Supporting the casualty between them, they carried him back through enemy fire to safety. Then, Sergeant Fee again exposed himself to enemy small arms and mortar fire in order to direct the heavy traffic withdrawing from the danger area. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
