The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Frank A. Egbert (ASN: 32912396), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 14 February 1945. Twice Private Egbert’s platoon was driven back during an attack on a heavily fortified enemy-held building, but on the third attempt he personally led the assault and entered the structure first. Urging the other men in his platoon to follow, he courageously explored four rooms and then observed a Japanese machine gun emplacement. Obtaining a rocket launcher, Private Egbert fully exposed himself in order to fire two well-aimed rounds which completely destroyed the gun and its crew, and greatly aided his unit in successfully completing its mission. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
