The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Emory Sanger Dresden (ASN: 17035807), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 7 February 1945. During the height of an intense enemy barrage by mortars, heavy artillery, and rockets on a regimental command post in the Malacanan Palace, Private Dresden left his position of cover, moved fifty feet over fire-swept ground to a wounded soldier, administered first aid and helped carry the casualty to safety. Again, twenty minutes later, Private Dresden repeated this act in order to drag another wounded companion out of the line of the fire of enemy weapons. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Dresden, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
