The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Edmund S. Dimick (ASN: 31094136), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 13 February 1945. When a rifle company was attacking a fortified enemy position in Manila, one of its members was wounded by machine gun fire and was unable to move to cover. Sergeant Dimick, running twenty yards over unprotected terrain, reached the man, lifted him off the ground and carried him to a sheltered position. During the rescue the enemy fire was extremely have and concentrated in this area. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Dimick, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
