The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Charles A. Dick (ASN: 35002401), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 17 April 1945. Corporal Dick, a member of an infantry regiment’s medical detachment, voluntarily braved an intense volume of enemy machine gun and rifle fire to aid in the evacuation of two seriously wounded men. Twice he crawled forward with a litter under the intense fire, and assisted in placing the men on the litter, and removing them to the safety of a ridge. Corporal Dick exhibited outstanding courage, composure and efficiency under the most hazardous conditions in performing his heroic deed. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
