The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Claby Credeur (ASN: 34155314), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 5 February 1945. When the intense heat from burning buildings in the Binondo Section of Manila necessitated the movement of troops, three men were wounded by enemy machine gun, mortar and rifle fire while crossing an intersection of streets. They lay there covered by Japanese weapons. Sergeant Credeur made three trips into the fire-swept area and successfully dragged or carried all three of the men to safety. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
