The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) [then Technical Sergeant] Vladmir Brenzo (ASN: 0-2007754), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 9 February 1945. When a member of his platoon, firing a rocket launcher at an enemy emplacement, was hit by an enemy rifleman, Sergeant Brenzo ran from his sheltered position to retrieve the weapon. Although he had never fired that type of weapon before and was forced to change his position several times because of intense hostile fire, Sergeant Brenzo successfully fired the launcher until the hostile pillbox was destroyed. Later, at night, Sergeant Brenzo with three men manned an outpost which was attacked by the enemy. Although one of his men received a saber wound in close fighting, Sergeant Brenzo courageously led his group in defending the outpost, and the Japanese were forced to withdraw, leaving four dead behind. Sergeant Brenzo was later fatally wounded while in action against the enemy at. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
