The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Private] Robert Everett Bealey (ASN: 37357404), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 21 February 1945. While his platoon was consolidating newly won positions in Manila, Sergeant Bealey saw a wounded comrade lying in an open yard, completely exposed to the fire of several Japanese machine guns. He immediately crawled across the yard under the heavy enemy fire, and although painfully wounded in the arm by a hostile machine gun bullet, he managed to drag and carry the casualty to the safety of a shell hole, where first aid could be administered. Sergeant Bealey’s courageous and unselfish action saved the life of his comrade. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Bealey, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
