The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Frank O. Beach (ASN: 35015818), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the Philippine Islands, on 9 February 1945. As a Medical Aidman attached to an infantry company during an attack on strong enemy posit ions, Technician Fifth Grade Beach repeatedly exposed himself to intense hostile fire in order to administer first aid and evacuate seriously wounded comrades. On one occasion, while carrying a casualty to safety, Technician Fifth Grade Beach was knocked to the ground by the concussion of enemy mortar shells, but he courageously continued his mission. Later, after being ordered to duty with another rifle company because of the short age of aid men in that unit. Technician Fifth Grade Beach was seriously wounded while attempting to evacuate an injured soldier. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Beach, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
