The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Stanton A. Turner (ASN: 0-396232), United States Army, for gallantry in action in northern France while serving with the 90th Infantry Division. On 15 June 1944 a company under the command of Captain Turner was attacking northwest across a wide plane containing two marshy streams, under conditions of extreme hostile machine gun and mortar fire. Captain Turner with utter disregard for his own personal safety moved among his men, directing and guiding the attack until he was severely wounded. His action was an inspiration to his men and the attack was successful but with moderate casualties.
