The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Emery K. Taylor (ASN: 38148626), United States Army, for gallantry in action in northern France while serving with the 90th Infantry Division. On 6 July 1944 when Sergeant Taylor’s squad was attacked by tanks and infantry, the bazooka man of his squad was wounded. Sergeant Taylor took the bazooka, personally placed himself in an exposed but advantageous position, made a direct hit on the turret of the tank and stopped it. He fired two other rounds at the tank, badly damaging it and causing it to retreat and broke up the enemy attack. The following day his squad received another counterattack and when the bazooka failed to function, he manned a BAR, keeping up continuous fire at the approaching tank until he was wounded and evacuated from the position.
