    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Max J. Schultz (ASN: 36889620), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division in action on 11 November 1944 in the vicinity of Koenigamacher, France. During two successive counterattacks by a numerically superior enemy, Staff Sergeant Schultz, at risk of his life, remained at his position. By means of accurate grenade and rifle fire, he succeeded in killing 14 enemy and repulsing the enemy attacks. The determination and courage displayed by Staff Sergeant Schultz was an inspiration to all who witnessed them. His gallantry was in accordance with high military tradition.
