The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Carl E. Potts (ASN: 39142690), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division in action on 10 November 1944 in the vicinity of Koenigamacher, France. While Private First Class Potts was prosecuting a demolition assignment with an officer, the officer was wounded by a concealed enemy rifleman. Private First Class Potts, cognizant of the probability of fire from the same sniper, and at risk of his life, advanced through an open field to the wounded officer and, while evacuating him to a position of safety, was wounded by the enemy rifleman. His gallantry was in accordance with high military tradition.
