By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Mason D. Wade (MCSN: 81975), United States Marine Corps, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Corporal Wade distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 18th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Blanc Mont Ridge, France, 3 October 1918. When the advance of the second platoon of this company was held up by enemy machine gun fire, Corporal Wade with two others, disregarding their personal safety, voluntarily went forward and located the machine gun nests, thus enabling the platoon to advance with very few casualties.
