By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Acors R. Thompson (MCSN: 164337), United States Marine Corps, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Thompson distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with 66th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action during the attack on Hill 142 near Belleau Woods, 6 June 1918. Private Thompson volunteered to form liaison with the French troops on the left of the 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment, United States Marine Corps, to which he was attached. This duty was necessary for the safety of his battalion and was gallantly carried out in the face of heavy machine gun fire from the enemy. In this duty, voluntarily assumed, he exposed himself to the enemy fire regardless of danger, and his conduct was an inspiration to his comrades.
