Saunders (MCSN: 99049/271775), United States Marine Corps, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Saunders distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 6th Machine-Gun Battalion, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Magenta Farm, France, 1 November 1918, in aiding in the capture of a battery of artillery which the enemy were attempting to remove to the rear.
