The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Second Class Robert Wayne Beckstrom (NSN: 3294329), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight near Kyushu on 6 April 1945. As second radioman of a Navy Patrol Bomber he participated in a daring attack upon an enemy airfield inflicting much damage to aircraft and installations. His performance of duty and his courage were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Second Class Robert Wayne Beckstrom (NSN: 3294329), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Pacific Area during the period from 10 March 1945 to 22 July 1945. Aviation Radioman Second Class Beckstrom completed twenty flights in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred. His conduct throughout has distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.
