The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Second Lieutenant (Air Corps) Arthur C. Goebel, U.S. Army Air Corps (Resere), for extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight. On 16 – 17 August 1927, Lieutenant Goebel piloted an airplane on a nonstop flight from Oakland, California, to Wheeler Field, Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, a distance of 2,400 miles, in 26 hours and 17 minutes. By his skill, resourcefulness, and courage in this accomplishment Lieutenant Goebel demonstrated the feasibility of airplane communication between the United States and it’s Pacific possessions, reflecting great credit upon himself and the Army of the United States.
