The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Alvin George Becker (NSN: 0-85977), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in operations against the enemy installations in the Nansei Shoto on 6 April 1945. While leading a four-plane division of a carrier-based fighter squadron, engaged in a fighter sweep against Wan airfield on Kikai Shima, he attacked and destroyed two airborne enemy single engine fighters near the field. His aggressive leadership and combat skill were at all times outstanding and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Alvin George Becker (NSN: 0-85977), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a carrier-based bomber fighter plane and fighter sweep leader on 10 July 1945, 15 July 1945 and 25 July 1945, in attacks against the enemy on Honshu and Hokkaido Japan. His inspiring and skillful leadership resulted in the destruction of one airborne enemy plane, ten enemy planes destroyed on the ground, ten damaged on the ground, one hangar destroyed, extensive damage to harbor facilities at Nemuro, damage to shipping at Nemuro and heavy damage to airfield installations at Ueno, Akenogahara, Maobashi and Kadama airfields. His skill and courage were at all times inspiring and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
