The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Captain Adolph E. Becker, Jr. (NSN: 57453), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of LION SIX, and upon change of designation, as Commandant, Naval Operating Base, Guam, from 15 April 1944 to 15 April 1945. He assumed duty as Commanding Officer of LION SIX in the early stage of formation. During the trying period of organization and planning, and during subsequent establishment of this unit on Guam in the early days of the occupation of the island and its growth to a large, advanced naval operating base which furnished services of all types to fleet units, he at all times tirelessly devoted himself to the task at hand. His initiative, energy, sound judgment, marked proficiency, and skilled application of a broad professional knowledge in connection with the successful establishment and development of this base was outstanding, and his devotion to duty and conduct throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
