The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant James G. Livingston (ASN: 13013550), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division in action on 24 November 1944 in the vicinity of Tettingen, Germany. In an assault on enemy defensive positions, Staff Sergeant Livingston, Squad Leader, led his squad toward a nearby enemy communications trench, personally killing one of the enemy during the advance. With the aid of newly-arrived reinforcements, Staff Sergeant Livingston directed the advance in the trench, using enemy concussion grenades to weaken the opposition. As a direct result of this action, 99 of the enemy troops were killed, captured or wounded. His gallantry was in accordance with high military traditions.
