The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Gerald N. Faze (ASN: 0-1322588), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division in action on 13 November 1944 in the vicinity of Koenigamacher, France. During an attack on the town, the advance of Company **, 358th Infantry Regiment, was executed so rapidly that confusion resulted and liaison between the units became impaired. First Lieutenant Faze, at risk of his life, proceeded from platoon to platoon through intense artillery fire and, while coordinating and organizing the scattered elements of the company, was mortally wounded by an enemy shell fragment. His courageous action, though at sacrifice of his life, greatly facilitated the accomplishment of his company’s mission. His gallantry was in accordance with high military tradition.
