The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Howard C. DePierre (ASN: 37156076), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 90th Infantry Division in Northern France. On 8 August 1944 in the vicinity of ***, France, while a member of a Task Force marching on ****, France, Technician Fourth Grade DePierre, seeing friendly tanks being held up by the enemy high velocity gun fire attempted to locate the enemy weapons and in so doing he came under enemy fire and his weapon was blown from his hands by an exploding shell. Obtaining another weapon he continued on his mission and assisted materially in reducing enemy fire in order that our tanks could go forward. This gallant act on the part of Technician Fourth Grade DePierre was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
