The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant John J. Czekovsky (ASN: 31039280), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 90th Infantry Division. On 20 August 1944 in the vicinity of ****, France, while in position waiting for friend anti-tank weapons to emplace in his vicinity he heard a track vehicle approaching. After it passed his position, he identified it and found it to be a German Mark V tank. Sergeant Czekovsky seized his bazooka, ran to the side of the tank, fired into it and destroyed the tank. This gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
