The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Ronald P. Allan, Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit, for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States near Seisie, Bougainville, Solomon Islands, on 31 October 1944. Accompanying a reconnaissance patrol with an American officer, a soldier, and two native guides, while crossing a wide stream, they were fired on by the enemy concealed on the far bank and the officer was wounded seriously. Ten yards from shore, and exposed to fire, Corporal Allan held his position and drew the enemy’s fire until the wounded officer could be carried to cover. He then withdrew, and, though wounded, assisted in carrying the officer several hundred yards over rugged terrain to a more secure area. Sending a native boy for help, he administered aid to the wounded officer. Corporal Allan’s brave actions in diverting hostile fire until the wounded officer could be removed reflect credit on himself and the military service.
