The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Henry J. Cersosimo (ASN: 31277155), United States Army, for gallantry in action in northern France while serving with the 90th Infantry Division. On 6 July 1944 his platoon sergeant was seriously wounded and enemy fire was too intense for a litter squad to reach him, Sergeant Cersosimo, on his own initiative, voluntarily started forward with a litter to rescue him. In this attempt Sergeant Cersosimo was seriously wounded. This gallant action in an attempt to reach the wounded man was an inspiration to his comrades in keeping with the best traditions of the service.
