The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant James A. G. Causey (ASN: 35508457), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 90th Infantry Division in Northern France. On 26 July 1944 in the vicinity of the **** River, Sergeant Causey’s company after very heavy fighting had reached its objective, sustaining heavy casualties. Intense fighting continued and Sergeant Causey, while the area was under heavy enemy fire, moved from place to place encouraging his men and personally fired every type of weapon in the company. During one attack he worked along the hedgerows against a group of German Infantry attempting to infiltrate the flank of the company and stopped the attack. Again, when members of the bazooka team became casualties he took their weapon and fired upon an enemy tank, forcing it to withdraw. His actions were an inspiration to his comrades and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
