The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Ross N. Boatright (ASN: 34625368), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 90th Infantry Division in Northern France. On 20 August 1944 in the vicinity of ****, France, when commanding a machine gun section and firing on an enemy column, Sergeant Boatright was charged by an enemy tank. Seeing the threatened danger, he personally took the gun into a more favorable but exposed position, while still under enemy fire and where he was able to pick off enemy personnel riding on the tank causing the tank to withdraw. Sergeant Boatright was wounded in this action. His gallantry in meeting the emergency was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
