During the engagement in the Hurtgen Forest, Lieutenant Colonel Sibert was with two companies of his battalion that were cut off from the regiment by fierce German counterattacks. He and his two companies remained isolated for three days before the remainder of his battalion and regiment fought through to relieve them. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Colonel Sibert, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
