The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Thomas G. Marlow, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 45th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Italy, on 7 – 8 February 1944. Private Marlow served as an Infantry ammunition carrier during a prolonged enemy counterattack in Italy. He worked throughout the night, frequently under heavy artillery fire, several times being knocked down by the concussion of exploding shells. Through his efforts the company ammunition supply was maintained and the company was able to repulse the counterattack. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
