The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Oscar W. Cason (ASN: 20829050), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Company A, 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, on 30 December 1943, near *****, Italy. Sergeant Cason carried an important message across about 600 yards of open terrain to the First Platoon, Company A, 180th Infantry Regiment. During this trip he was constantly under heavy mortar and machine gun fire. While returning, he was intercepted by an enemy patrol. He fired on the patrol, killing two members. He then continued on his way and reported the safe delivery of the message. Sergeant Cason’s gallantry and devotion to duty reflect high credit upon himself and the Armed Forces.
