The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Sergeant Edward A. Holton, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 16 April 1862, while serving with Company I, 6th Vermont Infantry, in action at Lee’s Mills, Virginia. First Sergeant Holton rescued the colors of his regiment under heavy fire, the Color Bearer having been shot down while the troops were in retreat.
