The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Keene N. Wilson (ASN: 0-1290864), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company *, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. On ** March 1943, Lieutenant Wilson assumed command of Company *, under extreme battle conditions and proceeded to carry out the duties of Company Commander in a highly efficient manner despite a shrapnel wound in the abdomen. On * April 1943, the company ammunition dump was set on fire by an enemy mortar shell and without regard for his personal safety and at the risk of his life, Lieutenant Wilson extinguished the fire by covering it with dirt. This action not only saved several cases of rifle and machine gun ammunition, but it destroyed what was becoming a serious threat to the personnel of this command because of exploding ammunition.
