The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Roy L. Stoltz (ASN: 33019244), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily, in 1943. Private Stoltz demonstrated exceptionally bravery while under heavy enemy artillery fire. Under this fire, he left his place of safety and moved out to render medical aid to several wounded men so ably that his heroic work was responsible for saving the lives of at lest two men. This was only one of many instances of Private Stoltz’s extraordinary devotion to duty. His coolness and courage have been a great example and inspiration to all with whom he has served.
