The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Roy H. Scheers, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, *** Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division in North Africa. On 23 April 1943 at Sedjenane Valley, Tunisia, during the heavy counter-attack by the Germans on Djebel *****, Private First Class Scheers distinguished himself as a fearless and efficient combat soldier in close contact with an enemy of superior strength. Private First Class Scheers operated his machine gun in the face of a devastating enemy attack, rendered more dangerous by the great quantity of grenades being hurled at the position in an effort to render the position untenable. Though wounded, Private First Class Scheers remained at his position until the enemy had been dispersed. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
