The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) Robert J. Sating (ASN: 0-373138), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Officer with the 9th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on ** February 1943, one and one-half miles south of ******, Tunisia. Captain Sating became the only available surgeon due to casualties among neighboring medical personnel. For two days and two nights he attended the wounded of his own and neighboring American units, as well as those of a British Armored Brigade. In order to reduce lines of litter evacuation, he caused his aid station to be placed in the Battalion Area and although subjected to constant hostile shell fire, he remained at his post without relief, rendered surgical attention and directed the evacuation of casualties without any regard for his personal safety. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Sating, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
