(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain H. Clay Lyle, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force while serving in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in Iraq in 2003. Captain Lyle’s troop was at the tip of the spear for the entire 3d infantry division throughout the campaign to liberate Iraq. His performance as commander resulted in no Apache Trooper losses in spite of many intense and violent battles with enemy forces. His heroism and leadership were vital to the success of his mission and the lives of his men. Captain Lyle’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 3d Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
