(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: First Lieutenant (Infantry) Jess A. Nunn, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 1st Battalion, 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action on 11 July 1944 in the vicinity of St. Jean De Daye, France. Lieutenant Nunn’s company was facing a powerful German counter-attack. During the attack the vital lines of communication between Lieutenant Nunn’s company and adjacent defending elements were severed. Quickly realizing the seriousness of the situation, he unhesitatingly exposed himself to enemy fire to re-establish communications.
