The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Edgar J. Mylott, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 9th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Tunisia. On ** April 1943 during operations in ***** Valley, Tunisia, Corporal Mylott with utter disregard for his own personal safety and without orders, assisted in putting out a fire on his vehicle, a half-truck, with 75-mm self-propelled gun mounted thereon, thus saving a valuable piece of equipment. On the vehicle was approximately 80 rounds of 75-mm. ammunition and anti-tank mines, some of which were on fire. In the face of artillery fire, knowing the ammunition was likely to explode at any time, Corporal Mylott continued to fight the fire as small arms ammunition was exploding in the vehicle. This display of courage and initiative reflects great credit upon Corporal Mylott and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
