The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Kenneth E. McIntosh, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 11 October 1944. Advancing against strongly fortified enemy positions in Germany, Staff Sergeant McIntosh’s squad was pinned down by the rifle fire from two well concealed enemy snipers. He exposed himself continuously to the enemy fire in a maneuver to locate the position of the snipers. He shot and killed two of them, returned to his squad, and reorganized it to continue the advance. He was subsequently killed by a sniper he had not see. By his aggressive leadership and complete disregard for his personal safety, Staff Sergeant McIntosh contributed materially to the success of the operations. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Staff Sergeant McIntosh, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
