The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Fred E. Harvey (ASN: 32065582), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company *, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. Private First Class Harvey did, at Sened, Tunisia, on or about 20 March 1943, subject himself to our artillery, with utter disregard for his own personal safety, to work himself into a position above and behind four enemy automatic machine guns. By using rifle grenades he caused the enemy to abandon all four gun positions. This gallant action greatly assisted the advance of his battalion.
