Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 43 (September 1, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Abraham D. Gordon (ASN: 33013632), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with a Field Artillery Battalion of the 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily during the period from March through August 1943. When an officer had been wounded in an engagement with the enemy, Private Gordon crawled forward under heavy enemy mortar and machine-gun fire and evacuated him to a place of safety. Private Gordon then returned to this position, still under heavy fire, and succeeded in recovering much valuable equipment. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
