The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Marion Lee Gibson (ASN: 35225410), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action in the vicinity of Schevenhutte, Germany, on 19 November 1944. When his company’s outer positions were partly overrun by the enemy during a fierce counterattack, Private Gibson unhesitatingly exposed himself to an intense machine gun, automatic rifle, and small arms barrage, and encouraged his squad to hold fire. Although his movements drew hostile fire upon himself, he continued to remain in an exposed position and directed the men in repulsing the attack. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
