The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Kenneth A. Robinson (ASN: 35846475), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, on 16 June 1945. During the night, the heavy machine gun platoon of which Private Robinson was a member, was occupying defensive positions in support of a rifle company. Upon observing that a group of the enemy had infiltrated friendly lines and were attacking the machine gun with hand grenades, Private First Class Robinson remained in his exposed position, laying withering fire upon the attackers until mortally wounded. Private First Class Robinson’s gallant action, which accounted for four enemy dead and several wounded, reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
