The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class John Frevele (ASN: 32105284), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from April through August 1943. While under deadly enemy artillery and mortar fire, Private Frevele left his place of safety and went to the aid of a wounded soldier. He successfully evacuated this man to a sheltered position where further treatment could be given. Private Frevele’s dauntless courage and unselfish action inspired his entire company. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
