The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Captain Edward Hill, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 1 June 1864, while serving with Company K, 16th Michigan Infantry, in action at Cold Harbor, Virginia. Captain Hill led the brigade skirmish line in a desperate charge on the enemy’s masked batteries to the muzzles of the guns, where he was severely wounded.
