The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Francis J. Fallon (ASN: 12007668), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Battery, 5th Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations in 1943. During landing operations the only artillery support of certain elements was naval gun fire. Technician Fourth Grade Fallon was in charge of the vital communications from shore to ship. In spite of being subjected to almost constant small arms, mortar, and artillery fire and frequent bombing, Technician Fourth Grade Fallon established and maintained the communications that insured the success of the operation. This bravery and devotion to duty contributed materially to the attainment of our victory. Technician Fourth Grade Fallon’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
