The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Private First Class Joe J. Foyt (ASN: 38361628), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with the Medical Detachment, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Maine, France, on 6 August 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Joe J. Foyt (ASN: 38361628), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily during the period from July through October 1943. When several members of a platoon were wounded by enemy mines during an advance upon a hostile position, Private Foyt, disregarding constant enemy artillery fire, administered first aid. His prompt and courageous actions undoubtedly saved many lives. Private First Class Foyt’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
